For the second year in a row, Radley won the national grand championship of the English Speaking Union Schools’ Mace Debating Competition.

Blake (6.2, A), Mikolaj (6.2, G) and DingDing (6.1, D) were praised by the judges for their arguments, rhetoric and tone, having competed since October and beating over 380 teams from across the country. Blake said, “Today’s success was a reflection of all the hard work we put in, and the debating culture that has been growing at Radley over the past few years.”

Head of History Tim Schmalz writes, “We opposed the motion ‘This House believes AI-generated content weakens creativity and critical thinking’… The ESU Schools Mace Debating Competition is the oldest and largest debating competition in the country, involving over 1,500 students.  The boys debated in the ESU headquarters in Dartmouth House in London, in the same chamber where Churchill famously debated on behalf of the ESU.”
