We have an excellent opportunity for two Graduate Assistants to work at the school for the academic year 2024/25. The positions are designed to give recent graduates in Mathematics (or in a Maths related subject) the opportunity to gain experience of teaching Mathematics to 13-18 year olds. By offering two posts, the assistants will not only benefit from the training under the Head of Department, they will also be able to share the training, and encourage each other as they discuss their progress. It is seen as an opportunity for a joint experience.

Graduate Assistants teach a reduced workload – about 12 forty minute periods per week. We will give the necessary training, and also provide the opportunity for lesson observation. Of the three most recently appointed Graduate Assistants, all have moved into full-time appointments at the College. But this is not an expectation. An appointment of someone who just wants to do one year and ‘try it out’ is fine.

In addition to a salary of £19,500 pa (which will be reviewed over the summer) the College will provide accommodation, and meals during term time, all free of charge. In short, the person we hope to appoint will be an enthusiast for Mathematics, who is considering a career in teaching. The opportunity we are offering is to ‘try before you buy’ with plenty of help and support, and the added bonus of a salary and accommodation.

Being a boarding school there is also plenty of opportunity for the willing candidate to involve themselves in the extra-curricular life of the College, whether it be coaching games, playing in the orchestra, or running with their own enthusiasm through involvement in one of the College’s many societies.

We have an increasingly diverse pupil intake and we are looking to increase diversity within our Common Room. We therefore encourage and welcome applicants from all backgrounds.

The deadline for applications is 12noon, Friday 10 May, but we reserve the right to consider applications as they arrive. Interviews will take place on 17 May 2024.
