We continue our celebration of Radley’s Partnerships Week with Samantha Craig, a KS2 teacher from Caldecott School, and the wider impact of Music Flood – the music education initiative bringing together primary and secondary schools to ensure access to inspiring musical opportunities:
“Through Music Flood, I attended CPD sessions where I learned how to run a choir and lead singing assemblies. I picked up many tips and ideas. Even from Music Flood week, I’ve continued using them in my assemblies. Our teachers’ confidence has definitely grown… In the four years I’ve been here, I’ve seen a huge change. More children are now learning musical instruments at our school – twice as many as before.
“The orchestra days are absolutely amazing. The first year, about 10 children participated. This year, over 30 children are taking part! It’s growing each year. More children want to join. I recorded the music from the orchestra day and played it in assemblies. The children were amazed and wanted to join. It inspired them.
“For the children, Music Flood is about awe and wonder. They’re amazed by what they can do and can’t wait to tell their friends, ‘You have to go next year; it was incredible.’”
